將 此 深 心 奉 塵 刹

Jyang tse shen syin feng chen cha

AND THUS ENDEAVOR TO REPAY THE BUDDHA'S BOUNDLESS GRACE.

是 則 名 為 報 佛 恩

I NOW REQUEST THE BHAGAVAN TO CERTIFY MY QUEST:

伏 請 世 尊 為 證 明

Fu ching shr dzwun wei jeng ming

TO ENTER FIRST THE EVIL WORLD—THE FIVE TURBIDITIES ;

五 濁 惡 世 誓 先 入

Wu jwo e shr shr syan ru

IF YET A SINGLE BEING'S NOT ACCOMPLISHED BUDDHAHOOD.

如 一 眾 生 未 成 佛

Ru yi jung sheng wei cheng fwo

ACCORDINGLY I ALSO MUST RENOUNCE NIRVANA'S BLISS.

終 不 於 此 取 泥 洹

Jung bu yu tse chyu ni hwan

O GREAT IN COURAGE, GREAT IN POWER, GREAT COMPASSIONATE ONE!

大 雄 大 力 大 慈 悲

Da syung da li da tse bei

I PRAY WOULD NOW UNCOVER AND DISPEL MY SUBTLEST DOUBTS.

希 更 審 除 微 細 惑

THUS CAUSE ME QUICKLY TO ATTAIN SUPREME ENLIGHTENMENT,

令 我 早 登 無 上 覺

Ling wo dzau deng wu shang jyau

AND SIT WITHIN THE BODHIMANDAS OF THE TENFOLD REALMS.

於 十 方 界 坐 道 場

Yu shr fang jye dzwo dau chang

AND EVEN COULD THE NATURE OF SHUNYATA MELT AWAY.

舜 若 多 性 可 銷 亡

Shwun rau dwo sying ke syau wang

MY VAJRA-LIKE SUPREME RESOLVE WOULD STILL REMAIN UNMOVED.

爍 迦 羅 心 無 動 轉

Shwun jya la syin wu dung jwan

AT THAT TIME THE WORLD HONORED ONE FROM THE FLESH MOUND AT THE CROWN OF HIS HEAD RELEASED A HUNDRED-JEWELLED LIGHT AND A THOUSAND PETALLED RARE LOTUS AROSE FROM THE MIDST OF THE LIGHT.

爾時世尊. 從肉髻中. 湧百寶光. 光中湧出. 千葉寶蓮.

Er shr shr dzwun, tsung rou ji jung, yung bai bau gwang, gwang jung yung chu, chyan ye bau lyan.

SEATED WITHIN THE PRECIOUS FLOWER WAS A TRANSFORMATION BODY OF THE THUS COME ONE, WHOSE CROWN IN TURN EMITTED TEN RAYS OF THE HUNDRED-JEWELLED EFFULGENCE.

有化如來. 坐寶華中. 頂放十道. 百寶光明.

You hwa ru lai, dzwo bau hwa jung, ding fang shr dau, bai bau gwang ming.

ALL THE MYRIAD LIGHTS SHONE 'ROUND ABOUT, EVERYWHERE REVEALING SECRET TRACE VAJRA SPIRITS, MANY AS THE SANDS OF TEN GANGES RIVERS. EACH HOLDING ALOFT A MOUNTAIN AND WIELDING A PESTLE, THEY PERVADED THE REALM OF EMPTY SPACE.

一一光明. 皆徧示現. 十恒河沙. 金剛密跡. 擎山持杵. 徧虛空界.

Yi yi gwang ming, jye byan shr syan, shr heng he sha, jin gang mi ji, ching shan chr chu, byan syu kung jye.

終 不 於 此 取 泥 洹

AND EVEN COULD THE NATURE OF SHUNYATA MELT AWAY

► Thuấn nhã đa tánh khả tiêu vong

舜 若 多 性 可 銷 亡

MY VAJRA-LIKE SUPREME RESOLVE WOULD STILL REMAIN UNMOVED.

一 一 光 明. 皆 徧 示 現. 十 恒 河 沙. 金 剛 密 迹. 擎 山 持 杵. 徧 虛 空 界.

The Shurangama or Śūraṅgama mantra is a dhāraṇī or long mantra of Buddhist practice in East Asia. Although relatively unknown in modern Tibet, there are several Śūraṅgama Mantra texts in the Tibetan Buddhist canon. It has strong associations with the Chinese Chan Buddhist tradition.

The mantra was, according to the opening chapter of the Śūraṅgama Sūtra, historically transmitted by Gautama Buddha to Manjushri to protect Ananda before he had become an arhat. It was again spoken by the Buddha before an assembly of monastic and lay adherents.

Like the popular six-syllable mantra "om mani padme hum" and the Nīlakaṇṭha Dhāraṇī, the Śūraṅgama mantra is synonymous with practices of Avalokiteśvara, an important bodhisattva in both East Asian Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism. The Śūraṅgama Mantra also extensively references Buddhist deities such as the bodhisattvas Manjushri, Mahākāla, Sitatapatra, Vajrapani and the Five Tathagatas, especially Bhaisajyaguru. It is often used for protection or purification, as it is often recited as part of the daily morning session in monasteries.

Within the Śūraṅgama Sūtra , the Sanskrit incantation (variously referred to as dhāraṇī or mantra) contained therein, is known as the Sitātapatroṣṇīṣa dhāraṇī, The "Śūraṅgama mantra" (Chinese: 楞嚴咒) is well-known and popularly chanted in East Asian Buddhism, where it is very much related to the practice of the "White Parasol Dhāraṇī" (Chinese: 大白傘蓋陀羅尼) of Sitatapatra.
